One day while in the Dominican Republic, Walker and I drove past this field filled with multi-colored trash, mostly plastic bags. Walker pointed out the beauty of the colors and suggested we make something. So we went back the next day with a 12 ft pole, and a bunch of rebar and chickenwire that we'd fasioned into a giant flower. Immediately we were flocked with children who wanted to help us make a giant flower so Walker had to go buy a bunch of gloves for these kids to wear so they wouldnt get germs picking up trash. The kids quickly self organized into factions of green trash picker-uppers, and red, yellow, blue, and white trash picker-uppers and then into weavers, diggers and wrappers. It was as if the project was that intuitive or obvious or they had years of experiance in this. However their excitement said they hadn't. At one point the sugarcane train stopped in the field for the kids to grap a bunch of canes and they brought back 2 for Walker and I.
We only had time to do one flower so we didnt get to clean up the whole field but I think we made a dent. And maybe we'll go back someday....
